A word from Pizzeria La Lanterna
A favourite of London locals since 1992, Pizzeria la Lanterna is located South of the Thames close to London’s Design Museum and Tower Bridge. Warmly inviting, the two floored restaurant is decorated in simple, slickly modern style and provides wonderful al fresco dining in the Italianite styled courtyard complete with parasol shades and a city-centric bustle. La Lanterna’s service is charming and even a little flirtatious – in keeping with that which you’ll find in Italy of course! – adding to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere while maintaining professionalism and efficiency. Live music every Friday night starts the weekend off well, with dancing until late after meals are eaten. While pizzas are La Lanterna’s selling point, the restaurant’s seafood, meat and pasta dishes are equally good, authentically and freshly prepared using high quality ingredients. No Italian meal is complete without a crisp glass of wine and indeed Pizzeria la Lanterna’s wine list is appropriately excellentContinued

  • "Good food and very good service from a friendly staff. Overall we enjoyed our meal and were glad we chose this restaurant."

  • "Nice restaurant with extensive menu and good service. Lovely courtyard for outdoor dining, been several times"

  • "La Lanterna is an excellent pizza restaurant in the Butler's Wharf area. The food was excellent and the portions generous (possibly too generous). The waiters were helpful and unobtrusive. The only missing thing was atmosphere. We went on a Wednesday evening and were alone when we arrived and one of only three or four couples dining by the time we left. I'd like to go again on a Friday or Saturday night and see what the atmosphere is like."

  • "Excellent dining room. Rustic. Good wine list. Large portions. Complimentary liquor - always a nice touch. Will definitely be back."

  • "My favourite place in Bermondsey, been many times before, will go many times again. Never a bad meal."

  • "My mum and I booked here as I have always had great food, lunch did not disappoint. I ordered the sea bass special which was a grilled filet in olive oil and lemon juice, with garlic, clams and mussels. My mum had a fantastic veal parmiagiano both of which were perfectly cooked and well presented with vegetables on the side. Great place for sitting outside on the terrace - very meditteranean!"

  • "Without doubt my favourite, as good as the italians on Bermondsey street, but with better value & service. Food is just simply top class, and the specials board will ensure there is always something new to try. Will be going back again and again. Big portions so go with an appetite."

  • "The food is terrific with a really good choice from the menu. Portion sizes are generous and everything is enhanced because it has such a great friendly feeling about the place."

  • "Recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. Unbelievable pizza and pasta at great prices. Service could of been better, but only because they were so busy. Portions are massive so if you're not a big eater share a starter."

  • "We went for my dads birthday on Saturday evening. My 2 year daughter as also with us. They were very accommodating and the service was excellent. The food portions were huge! They also arranged. Sing song of happy birthday and a complimentary dessert for my dad which was a nice touch!"

  • "This restaurant has never failed to please and is a good place to eat no matter the occasion. Our friend from Australia loved the place and was v impressed with the style of light music being played as well as her dinner choice. The food was good and plentiful with an excellent 'specials' board; the chef too was very obliging in meeeting specific foodie requests. A pleasant experience all round."

  • "Having been to La Lanterna a few years ago and completely enjoying the experience, I decided to take my fiancee there for our anniversary last week. I was disappointed that it didn't quite live up to the same level of service and quality I'd experienced previously. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, just not very special. The waiting staff were pleasant but not overly attentive and although the portions for our meals were a generous size, the food was just ok. The restaurant was also slightly too well lit for the romantic dinner I'd envisioned. I don't think we'll be returning as we can spend £85 elsewhere and gain a much better dining experience!"

  • "I visited the restaurant with a friend last Friday. It is some time since my last visit ( several years) but it hasnt lost its charm.Locals, tourists and Londoners visit the restaurant which retains the charm of a traditional trattoria and continues to offer good food."

  • "After passing this place so many times, we thought it was time to give it a try. Lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent. Great little outdoor seating area. Inside also looked great if the weather isn't so good. Great value too. Highly recommended."

  • "My girlfriend and I were there on Friday to try the recommended Pizza. The place is decorated like a cheap Souther Italian pizzeria, without the charm though. It was a shame to see such a beautiful architecture wasted on plastic chairs and tables. staff was friendly and attentive but the food was the real disappointment. We did order pizza and we got a flat dry disc splattered with sour tomato and an idea of cheese (I will not even attempt to call it mozzarella)."

  • "Went to La Lanterna a couple of Saturday's ago & was very dissapointed. I have been many times before, but Saturday was poor. The main restuarant was booked for a private party, so we were seated upstairs & I don't think that they could cope with both the party & the restaurant. Service was very slow & food arrived at different times e.g we had vitually finished our main before my fathers meal finally arrived. Also, perhaps due to the distance from the kitchen all the food was cold. Overall poor"

  • "La Lanterna on Mill street was as always a nice place to go for a nice family dinner. Food is good and not overly priced which is rare in this neighbourood. Will definitely go back or order take away very soon."

  • "Pizzeria La Lanterna was very good indeed. The food was piping hot, very large portions and the price was very reasonable. The service was very good and attentive. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal."

  • "La Lanterna on Milne St near Tower Bridge - as always the food was excellent, particularly the scallops with bacon as the starter. The generous portion sizes always astound me, even though I am a regular. Slightly slow on the service but a busy night - this is authentic, and very very good Italian food. Love the free aperatif at the end, and the staff were excellent as always. The seafood pasta and the gnocchi are our favourites, but so much to choose form on the menu!"

  • "La Lanterna is a great restaurant. Tucked away down Mill Street near the beautiful Shad Thames, it's got a more intimate and local atmosphere than the crowded places on the nearby riverbank. Great food with generous portions, great service."

  • "We have been on a Saturday night and their limited number of staff simply couldnt cope with a full house. Not only were waiting times too long, but they also 2 times forgot our orders and to bring the bill. Shame, otherwise really good food and atmosphere."

  • "A little disappointed with the food on this visit. Not as good as on previous meals. Did find the atmosphere good as it was almost full."
